Beijing Auto Works founded
The second large-scale automotive enterprise in new China begins production in the capital.
1965
The BJ212
Built to a military brief as a light, simple, unbreakable off-roader, it enters service as the army’s standard utility vehicle. It becomes the vehicle that helps build a nation, and the template for everything that follows.
1980s
Two million and counting
BJ212 derivatives serve in deserts, mountains and jungles on every inhabited continent. Over two million are built.
2010s
BAW International
Modern R&D centres, new production plants and a sales and service network of more than 2,000 outlets worldwide.
2024
The new 212 T01
Body-on-frame, live axles, 2.0T diesel or petrol, and a design that honours the original without copying it. Launched across Asia and the Middle East.
2026
UK & Ireland
BAW Auto is appointed for the UK and Ireland and begins building franchised dealer networks ahead of right-hand-drive launch.
